It is no secret that Leeds United need a goalkeeper this summer. And the news that Birmingham City have made David Stockdale available for transfer had not gone unnoticed at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire Evening Post stated that Leeds have shown an interest in signing the 32-year-old after he was made surplus to requirements by former Whites manager Garry Monk at St Andrews.

Stockdale has been one of the finest goalkeepers at Championship level in recent seasons. He was included in the 2017 PFA Team of the Year on the back of his superb displays for Brighton, who were promoted to the Premier League two seasons ago after finishing runners-up behind Newcastle.

But the YEP reports that a move for Stockdale is uncertain as Leeds are a distance apart from the goalkeeper on wages.

It is unknown how much Stockdale is currently earning at Birmingham but it seems that it is more than Leeds would be willing to pay.

A loan deal for Manchester City youngster Angus Gunn, then, seems far more likely.

Leeds are understood to have made the 22-year-old their top goalkeeping target. And their hopes will have been boosted by the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa, who enjoys a great relationship with City counterpart Pep Guardiola.
