Jairo Riedewald has not made a Premier League appearance all season and was expected to leave Crystal Palace for La Liga outfit Celta Vigo.

Jairo Riedewald looked set to bring an end to a nightmarish 18 month spell at Crystal Palace this month.

According to Sky Sports, the 22-year-old Dutchman was in talks about a loan move to Spanish side Celta Vigo that was expected to be turned into a permanent transfer if they avoided relegation from La Liga this season.

But, in a sudden twist of fate, a deal for Riedewald was put to one side as Celta instead snapped up Wesley Hoedt on a short-term deal from Southampton.

Faro de Vigo claimed that negotiations with the former Ajax man had been called off.

And El Desmarque has tried to shed light on the situation on Wednesday. They believe that it was Riedewald himself who decided against a move to the Balaidos because he was not given assurances that he would be a regular starter under coach Miguel Cardoso.

Considering that Riedewald has not made a single Premier League appearance all season for Crystal Palace, you can hardly forgive him for wanting to join a club where he would be a key player.

A central midfielder who can also play in defence or at full-back, Palace paid £7.9 million to sign Riedewald in the summer of 2017 during Frank de Boer’s ill-fated spell at Selhurst Park (The Guardian).
