Almost two years after Everton tried to sign Leo Lacroix from FC Sion, the Swiss international centre-back is once again on Steve Walsh’s shortlist.

The Sun reported on Wednesday that the 26-year-old, who is on loan at Basel from Ligue 1 side St Etienne, impressed Everton’s scouts as Raphael Wicky’s side stunned Manchester City with a 2-1 win at the Etihad in the second-leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash last week.

It is understood that Everton could get their man at long last if they are willing to pay St Etienne £7 million in the summer.

And according to Swiss outlet Le Matin, Lacroix would be open to the idea of heading to Goodison Park.

The towering 26-year-old, who stands at just over 6ft 5ins, is aware that his physical qualities would suit the rough and tumble of the Premier League and he is not against the idea of a move to Merseyside, despite the fact that Basel have an option to buy him once his loan spell at St Jakobs Park expires.

Everton is one of the most prestigious and historic clubs in English football, another factor Le Matin believes that makes Goodison Park an enticing destination for a player who will harbour an outside hope of forcing his way into Switzerland’s squad for the World Cup this summer.
