Scottish Premiership giants Rangers paid a bargain £1m to sign Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017.

The signing of Alfredo Morelos might just be the best piece of business Rangers have done since they returned to the Scottish Premiership in 2016.
The Glasgow giants invested £1 million in the Colombian striker on the back of his prolific form in Finland with HJK Helsinki. And, a year and a half on, Morelos may well be worth up to 10 times more after scoring 15 goals in all competitions this season.
When the ‘El Bufalo’ does leave, and he will at some point despite signing a new contract as recently as September, you can guarantee that Rangers will make a substantial profit.
But how close did Rangers come on missing out on arguably the top striker in Scottish football back in the summer of 2017?

According to the Daily Record, Morelos received an offer from Spain once it became clear that his time at HJK was coming to an end. Given that Morelos is a Spanish speaker, a move to the Mediterranean seemingly ticked a lot of boxes.
But, the Daily Record adds, Morelos’ representatives felt a move to Scotland would suit his style of football better so the combative centre-forward was quickly off to Glasgow. The presence of a number of Spanish speakers on Pedro Caixinha’s coaching staff helped too.
And given that Morelos has adapted to life in Britain like a duck to water, thriving in physical battles and relishing the all-action style of the game north of the border, it looks like the right decision.
