Nottingham Forest’s Championship striker Daryl Murphy has been linked with a return to Paul Lambert’s Ipswich Town in the January transfer window.
The future of Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy has come into question with just days remaining until the January transfer window swings open.
The 35-year-old veteran has started just four Championship games all season, with manager Aitor Karanka preferring the in-form Lewis Grabban in attack. As a result, speculation has arisen suggesting that Murphy could be on his way with a return to Ipswich Town on the cards.
TWTD states that Paul Lambert’s struggling side are hoping to bring the Republic of Ireland international back to Portman Road next month. Murphy enjoyed the best season of his career with Ipswich in 2014/15, winning the Championship’s Golden Boot with 27 league goals.
But the East Anglian Daily Times has now shed fresh light on the situation, and it is not good news for Ipswich fans who are clamouring for Murphy’s return.
It is understood that the old-school target man is still happy with life at Nottingham Forest despite his relative lack of game-time in recent months. And, the report adds, Ipswich are yet to make contact with Forest although Murphy is well regarded within the walls at Portman Road.
Having said that, it remains to be seen what Forest’s plans for Murphy are given that Karanka has been tipped to bring another new striker to the City Ground in the New Year.
