Pape Souare has only featured in one Premier League game so far this season for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace and could leave Selhurst Park.
You have to feel for Pape Souare. He was starting to make a name for himself at Crystal Palace before being involved in that horror car crash around two years ago.
Since then, Souare has made just five appearances for Roy Hodgson’s side, with Patrick Van Aanholt and Jeffrey Schlupp establishing themselves in his absence.
As such, the Mirror (16 September, page 48) reports that Souare is unlikely to remain at Selhurst Park for much longer.
As it stands, the former Lille defender’s contract is due to expire next summer and it seems he is entering his final few months as a Crystal Palace player.
Souare, who has represented Senegal 22 times at international level, would be available on a free transfer next summer. But it remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace would be willing to sell him on a cut-price fee in January.
He moved to a Palace side then managed by Alan Pardew from Lille in the winter of 2015 for around £3.6 million. And, despite his injury problems, it is not unrealistic that the Eagles could recoup that fee with a number of clubs in England’s top two tiers in need of a steady left-back.
