Sunderland striker Josh Maja has scored 14 League One goals this season, reportedly catching the eye of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

A whole host of clubs north and south of the border are reportedly keeping a close eye on developments surrounding the coveted Sunderland forward Josh Maja.

It is well documented that the 20-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of this season and, according to The Sun, he has turned down a lucrative offer to stay at the Stadium of Light.

The report adds that Celtic have joined the race recently as they look to replicate their inspired Moussa Dembele deal of 2016. The Sun believes that The Hoops could offer out-of-favour defender Jack Hendry as a makeweight.

And the Northern Echo has now provided a further insight into Celtic’s interest. It is believed that manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed an interest in signing Maja after sending scouts to watch him on a number of occasions this season.

The Echo adds that a move to Celtic is a ‘growing possibility’ too with Rodgers seeing the former Manchester City youngster as one of the most promising finishers in British football right now.

Given that the former Liverpool coach has a good relationship with his Sunderland counterpart Jack Ross, Celtic could have an advantage over any rival suitors.
