Newcastle United ace Mikel Merino could be on his way out of the Premier League with a number of La Liga clubs interested.

Is Mikel Merino on his way out of Newcastle United already?
The Spanish U21 ace made a terrific start to life on Tyneside last summer. In fact, he impressed so much after arriving on loan from Borussia Dortmund that Newcastle took up their option to sign him permanently for £8 million just two months into the Premier League campaign.

But after suffering a back injury around Christmas time, Merino lost his place in the XI to the rejuvenated Mo Diame. In the second half of the season, as Rafa Benitez’s side pulled away from relegation danger and established themselves in mid-table, the former Osasuna talent started just one league game.

The Chronicle adds that Athletic Bilbao, who can only sign players from the Basque region, are Merino’s most likely destination. Real Betis are keen too, however, as are another two La Liga sides.
