Mark Hughes has won just one out of 14 Premier League games this season and Southampton have made a change – but will it be Moyes or Allardyce?

On paper, a 2-2 draw with Manchester United doesn’t look like a bad result for Southampton. But a home draw against Jose Mourinho’s men was not enough to save Mark Hughes from the sack.

After just one win in 14 Premier League games this season, Hughes is packing his bags and bidding farewell to St Mary’s. And talk will inevitably turn to who will succeed the Welshman at a club who appear to be lacking any sort of direction or identity right now.

Though claims made on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (3 November, 10am) have laid out exactly what Southampton are looking for to move forward – and it seems that an experienced ‘firefigher’ like a David Moyes or a Sam Allardyce is not what they are looking for.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Southampton at Goodison Park on May 5, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Now, Moyes and Allardyce were parachuted in at West Ham and Everton last season respectively and saved both from the drop but it seems that Southampton are not looking to make a short-term appointment.

talkSPORT believes that the South Coast club are looking for a manager capable of leading the club into a new era – which means the likes of Leonardo Jardim, Brendan Rodgers and Peter Bosz (below), young, hungry coaches renowned for their ambitious and exciting style of play, will surely tick a number of boxes.

The trio were all linked last week by The Mirror (26 November, page 55).

TalkSPORT adds that club legend and first-team coach Kelvin Davis has been placed in caretaker charge for Wednesday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
