Russell Martin is a free agent after being released by Norwich City and has been on trial with West Bromwich Albion.

After being released by Norwich City at the start of the summer, Carrow Road legends Wes Hoolahan and Russell Martin have spent the last week or so on trial with West Bromwich Albion.

Between them, Hoolahan and Martin made over 650 appearances for the Canaries, winning promotion to the Premier League twice in 2011 and 2014.

So no wonder a West Brom side aiming to make an immediate return to the top flight after being relegated in the spring were considering giving the experienced duo a fresh start.

But, while Hoolahan is set to be rewarded with a short-team deal that could be completed at the weekend, according to the Irish Independent, it seems unlikely that Martin will be joining his old Norwich teammate at The Hawthorns.

According to the Express and Star, it is believed that Martin will not be offered a deal with West Brom.

As a result, the 32-year-old will remain a free agent.

It has been a difficult year for Scotland international Martin. He was phased out by Norwich once Daniel Farke arrived from German football last summer and endured a difficult loan spell at Rangers in the second half of 2017/18, where he made a number of high-profile mistakes.
