Report explains the likelihood of Newcastle selling Lejeune to Sevilla

La Liga club Sevilla are reportedly keen to sign Newcastle United’s Florian Lejeune after just one season in the Premier League.

Mikel Merino is not the only Newcastle United ace who has been offered the opportunity to return to Spain this summer.

One year after he arrived from Eibar for £8.7 million, Estadio Deportivo are claiming that Sevilla are keen to sign Florian Lejuene this summer.

The Andalucian side’s new manager, Pablo Machin, worked with Lejune during their time together at Girona in the 2015/16 season.

And the one-time Manchester City defender could have been identified as a replacement for the in-demand Clement Lenglet, who has been linked heavily with Barcelona.

Estadio Deportivo claimed that Newcastle would demand a substantial profit if they were to sell Lejuene after just one season. And the Chronicle has now gone a step further, claiming that Rafa Benitez sees the ball-playing defender as a big part of his plans so it seems unlikely that the Magpies would be willing to negotiate.

It is understood that Newcastle will resist Sevilla’s advances with Benitez believing that Lejuene, who recovered from an early injury to start 24 Premier League games last season, has all the attributes needed to succeed in England.

And the report states that Newcastle would not consider selling the 27-year-old for anything less than an astronomical offer. So expect to see Lejeune in black and white next season.
