Championship hopefuls Aston Villa are looking for attacking reinforcements with a deal for Watford’s Premier League attacker Success reportedly possible.
It has been well documented for some time that Steve Bruce would love to bring Tammy Abraham to Aston Villa.
The Chelsea striker is expected to leave Stamford Bridge on loan again after spending the last two seasons at Bristol City and Swansea. And the Express and Star claims that two-time England international Abraham is the striker that Bruce most wants to sign before the end of the month.
The former Sunderland and Wigan boss does have a contingency plan in place, however. And it revolves around another top flight forward who is also likely to spend most of his time on the bench.
Villa were linked with Watford powerhouse Isaac Success at the start of this month and the Express and Star claims that he is still a target. Although the Midland giants are only expected to move for the Hornets forward should the deal for Abraham fall through.
Success moved to Vicarage Road for a then-club record fee of £12.5 million in 2016 (Sky Sports) after an impressive spell in La Liga with Granada.
But the 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League and spent the second half of last season on loan at Malaga, who finished bottom of Spain’s top flight. Success has, however, featured off the bench in both of Watford’s league fixtures in 2018/19.
He is a very different player to Abraham, who is renowned for his penalty-box poaching. Success is a direct and aggressive winger who would likely have to compete with Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie for a place in Aston Villa’s XI.
