Graeme Jones and Darren Moore were surprisingly sacked on Saturday with West Bromwich Albion sitting fourth in the Championship table.
West Bromwich Albion’s chiefs were concerned that Graeme Jones was having too much influence on Darren Moore’s tactics before handing the pair their P45s on Saturday, according to the Express and Star.
The highly-rated Jones arrived at The Hawthorns last summer and was named Moore’s assistant coach, with the Baggies aiming to secure an immediate return to the Premier League this season.
The 48-year-old is a hugely experienced coach, having worked alongside Roberto Martinez at Wigan and Everton before helping the Belgian national team reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia.
But the Express and Star believes that Jones’ relationship with the decision-makers at West Brom became increasingly strained after the turn of the year.
The club’s failure to rubber stamp a deadline-day deal for Sunderland left-back Bryan Oviedo, who Jones worked with Everton, is thought to have been a particular point of contention.
The report adds that there were growing concerns that Jones had too much influence over Moore’s tactics. The Baggies are the Championship’s second most prolific side, far removed from the pragmatism of Tony Pulis, but were increasingly open at the back.
They lost 4-0 to Leeds United in Moore’s penultimate game in charge.
Jones should not be out of work for long, however, as he is expected to take over at Luton Town in the summer.
