Is Ashley Williams finished at the top level?

There is little doubt that the 2017/18 season was the defenders’ most testing at Premier League level. The former Swansea City skipper endured a nightmare season for Everton, making a whole host of mistakes as The Toffees limped to an eighth placed finish.

And while Williams has no plans to push for a move this summer with a year remaining on his contract, The Mirror reports that this decision could be taken out of his hands.

It is understood that new manager Marco Silva is willing to listen for offers for the Welsh veteran with the 33-year-old set to be a victim of the major shake-up that is likely to take place at Goodison Park over the next few weeks.

Williams hasn’t played for Everton since he was sent off against Burnley in march for swinging an arm at Ashley Barnes in a moment of remarkable naivety from a player with almost 250 appearances to his name in the top flight of English football.

Michael Keane, who had looked decidedly shaky alongside Williams, appeared far more composed with Phil Jagielka next to him and Everton’s defence improved in the former Swans’ absence. And that spoke volumes.
