No one set up more goals in the Championship last season than Barry Douglas. So Wolverhampton Wanderers certainly caused a shock when they sold the set-piece specialist to Leeds United before replacing him with Jonny Castro Otto.

But no one is questioning that decision now.

Spain international left-back Jonny has been a revelation since he arrived at Molineux, helping Nuno Espirito Santo into the top half of the table while impressing at either end of the pitch.

Whether his long-term future is in England, however, remains to be seen. Jonny is only on loan from Atletico Madrid, who signed him from Celta Vigo in July for £6.2 million on a six-year contract (AS).

According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are unsure whether they will be able to sign the 24-year-old permanently, although sporting director Kevin Thelwell admitted that they are likely to look into the situation during the January transfer window.

It seems that Atletico identified Jonny as a replacement for the 33-year-old Brazilian Filipe Luis. The former Chelsea left-back is out of contract next summer, so the plan could be for Jonny to return once Luis bids farewell.
