Sofiane Boufal is on loan at La Liga outfit Celta Vigo after failing in the Premier League for Southampton.
Southampton will have to re-negotiate their agreement if they want to sell Sofiane Boufal to Celta Vigo this summer, as reported by Marca.
The Moroccan international has spent the current campaign on loan at the La Liga outfit though his time at the Balaidos is perhaps best described as ‘mixed’. Boufal has produced the most successful dribbles in the Spanish top flight this season, 14 more than a certain Lionel Messi, although a tally of two goals and two assists leaves a lot to be desired.
According to Marca, Celta and Southampton came to an agreement last year that Boufal’s short-term deal could be made permanent for a fee of around £13 million.
But the report adds that the 2017 Europa League semi-finalists are no longer keen on playing such a fee, with relegation a genuine possibility with just a few games remaining. If Southampton want to sell Boufal to Celta, they will have to accept a reduced fee.
The Saints paid a club-record £16 million to sign Boufal from Lille in 2016 (BBC) but he didn’t exactly live up to his reputation as the ‘new Eden Hazard’ at St Mary’s.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, it seems unlikely that Southampton will come close to recouping their investment.
