Steven Gerrard’s Rangers were well below their best in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat away at Scottish Premiership surprise packages Livingston.

Rangers have played 18 games in all competitions since Steven Gerrard took over at Ibrox in the summer. But, while Sunday’s defeat at Livingston was only their second loss under the former Liverpool captain, it was far and away their worst display of the campaign.

Rangers were devoid of life and energy at the Toni Macaroni Arena, going down to a Dolly Menga goal in the first half. And, to be quite honest, Livingston looked more likely to score a second or a third than the Glasgow giants did of getting an equaliser.

This was an out-of-character display from Gerrard’s Rangers, who had shown plenty of personality and fighting spirit under the Anfield legend.

So it is little surprise to learn that Gerrard is trying to ensure this defeat in the West Lothian region is a one off.

Rangers’ players took to the Hummel Training Centre ahead of their Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna and the Daily Record reports that there was a massive focus on intensity in their pre-match preparations.

It is claimed that the training session consisted of a lot of running and hard work, which is surely no coincidence after the listless display against Livi.

Gerrard will be doing everything to prove that this blip is not the start of something more.
