Report explains how Everton have infuriated Rooney as MLS move beckons

Everton’s Wayne Rooney has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to leave the Premier League for Major League Soccer and DC United.

While Everton fans were dismayed when boy wonder Wayne Rooney left for Manchester United in 2004, his second Goodison Park departure will be met with fewer tears from the Toffees faithful.

Barring a few moments of brilliance, such as that opening day header against Stoke, the masterclass against Manchester City and the halfway-line wonder goal against West Ham, Rooney has looked a shadow of his former self since returning to Everton last summer.

And, according to the Mirror, the former England captain is heading across the Atlantic, having agreed a three-year deal in principle with DC United. But this does not mean Rooney is happy to be bidding farewell to his boyhood club for the second time.

The Mirror claims that Rooney is furious after being told that he is not part of Marco Silva’s plans and feels he is being forced out. The 32-year-old had hoped to end his career in Everton blue but that dream will now be dashed.

The report adds that Rooney would obviously prefer to stay but knows, if he does, his game time will be limited. Leaving against his will, then, suddenly appears to be the best option available to him.

Everton value Rooney’s influence both on and off the pitch but seem desperate to get him off the wage bill. But is this the kind of ruthless decision the club need in order to put three years of massive underachievement behind them?
