Tottenham Hotspur appear to be leading the chase for Inter Milan’s Joao Mario.
Joao Mario spent just a few months at West Ham United at the start of 2018, but life in London obviously struck a chord with the Portugal international.
Because the Mirror (live blog, 12.20pm) is reporting that Mario would love to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan before the transfer window slams shut. And, fortunately for him, it is reported that Daniel Levy is planning a late move to bring the 26-year-old Inter Milan ace back to the English capital.
Spurs have been one of a number of sides linked with Mario in recent weeks after he impressed during a temporary spell at West Ham, scoring twice in 13 Premier League games to help keep David Moyes’ side in the Premier League.
Gianluca di Marzio recently claimed West Ham wanted to bring the former Sporting Lisbon play-maker back to the London Stadium.
The chances of Tottenham landing Mario on loan, however, look slim. An Inter side under pressure from Financial Fair Play want to sell the versatile midfielder this summer for around £26 million and rejected West Ham’s attempts to re-sign him on loan this summer.
Tottenham have not spent a single penny so should not be short of cash. Sky Sports claims that Aston Villa have rejected their £25 million bid for Jack Grealish but Mario, who could play a similar role on the left of midfield, would cost a similar fee.
