Kieran Richardson has not had a club since being released by Cardiff City in 2016 but he is now training with Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Kieran Richardson is back at West Bromwich Albion. Well, sort of.

The 33-year-old has not played a game of competitive football now for 18 months and, according to the Birmingham Mail, he has returned to his former club in order to build up his fitness ahead of the new campaign.

Richardson’s career appears to be hanging in the balance right now and he will be desperate to get himself back on track. The former England international has not had a club since he was released by Cardiff City in December 2016 and was last seen training with Granada during Tony Adams’ brief spell in La Liga.

So Richardson will be praying that a return to West Brom, at least in a behind-the-scenes role, will provide him with a fresh start. He even made an appearance during the 3-0 pre-season win against Barnet on Sunday.

The former Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa midfielder enjoyed perhaps the best spell of his career at West Brom. He moved to The Hawthorns on loan during the second half of 2004/05 and was an integral part of the side that pulled off the ‘great escape’.

West Brom were bottom at Christmas but survived relegation on the final day – the first team in Premier League history to achieve that feat.

As of yet, it appears that a contract with the Baggies is not on the cards but, should Richardson show that he has still got it, do not rule out a second spell in those navy and white stripes.
