Championship leaders Middlesbrough could reportedly make a move to sign Kieran Dowell from Everton in the January transfer window.

Kieran Dowell finished last season as Nottingham Forest’s most prolific Championship player, scoring nine goals from central midfield during a loan spell at the City Ground.

But that has not helped the Omskirk-born youngster force his way into Everton’s first-team plans after returning to Goodison Park a more mature and experienced player. The 21-year-old has not made a Premier League appearance all season and has been included in Marco Silva’s match day squad on only three occasions out of a possible nine.

Another loan move away from Everton could suit Dowell in the January transfer window.

And, fortunately, the Sun (21 October, page 61) reports that Middlesbrough would be willing to give the gifted midfielder an opportunity to impress.

It is claimed that Boro scout Adrian Bevington saw Dowell score a wonderful goal for England’s U21s against Scotland a week ago and could now move to bring him to the Riverside on loan until the end of the season.

As it stands, Middlesbrough are top of the Championship table, but Tony Pulis’s side have scored just 16 goals in 13 games, the lowest tally in the top six.
