Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05 beat Premier League opposition Everton in the Opel Cup with the ‘new Mesut Ozil’ catching the eye.

Everton are interested in signing Erkan Eyibil after the Mainz wonder kid scored against them in Saturday’s Opel Cup clash, as reported by Turkish Football.
The Toffees endured a rather miserable time in the pre-season tournament. After losing to Sevilla in the Opel Cup opener, Marco Silva’s side were swept away 3-1 by an impressive Mainz team to finish bottom of the table.
But there is one positive that has come out of a worrying collapse against mid-table Bundesliga opposition.
Teenage midfielder Eyibil caught the eye and Turkish Football claims that Everton are now looking to sign him after the German youth star fired a clinical strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Labelled ‘the new Mesut Ozil’ in some quarters thanks to his similarities with the enigmatic Arsenal play-maker, Eyibil scored 17 goals in 23 games in Mainz’s reserve side last season to catch the eye of clubs all over Europe.
Premier League pair Aston Villa and Newcastle United are both interested in a dazzling number ten with Turkish heritage.
But Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands is a master at discovering fresh-faced youngsters and snapping them up before they turn into stars.
Dries Mertens, Hirving Lozano, Gini Wijnaldum and Kevin Strootman were all unearthed by the former PSV and AZ Alkmaar chief and Eyibil could be about to follow in their footsteps.
