Report: Everton want £12m for Besic, could be used in Middlesbrough swap

Mo Besic shone on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough after moving from Premier League outfit Everton in the January transfer window.

Everton’s decision to loan Mo Besic to Middlesbrough in January worked out perfectly for all parties.

The Bosnian midfielder had barely featured at Goodison Park over the last few seasons due to a series of injuries, not to mention the addition of new signings and academy graduates which left him well down the pecking order.

But Besic shone in the North East, putting those fitness issues behind him to start 17 Championship games and lead Middlesbrough into the play-off places. As a result, the 25-year-old has restored his reputation – and inflated his price-tag too.

And the Northern Echo is now reporting that Everton are not looking to loan out Besic again this summer but will let him go permanently so long as someone is willing to pay his £12 million price-tag.

This would be fantastic business for Everton, especially considering that Besic has started just 22 Premier League games since his £4 million move from Ferencvaros in 2014.

The Northern Echo adds that Besic, a ferocious and tough-tackling throwback of a midfielder, would be interested in a return to Middlesbrough if he is told that he has no future at Goodison Park.

Interestingly, however, the report claims that Everton are willing to offer Besic to Boro as a makeweight in a deal that would bring centre-back Ben Gibson to Merseyside.

Tony Pulis, the Middlesbrough manager, would love to see Besic return.
