Former Watford left-back Miguel Layun could be set for a return to the Premier League with Everton, if Primeira Liga giants Porto let him go that is.

Alex Telles’ form has been so impressive for Porto this season that fellow left-back Miguel Layun has barely had a look in. The Mexican has made just two Primeira Liga starts in 2017/18 for Sergio Conceicao’s league leaders, and is even considering a departure in January.
According to Goal, Layun is determined to ensure he remains Mexico’s first-choice left-back ahead of the World Cup and is concerned that his lack of minutes at Porto will damage his prospects of starting in Russia this summer.
As such, a January move could be on the cards with Everton, Fenerbahce and La Liga duo Alaves and Celta Vigo all interested – although it is understood that Porto would rather hang on to a player who is an excellent back-up option.

Links with Everton have come out of the blue but should be no surprise. With Leighton Baines missing the last few weeks with injury, there is no other natural left-back at Everton’s disposal, with Luke Garbutt left out of the club’s Premier League squad. As such, the right-footed Cuco Martina has been forced to fill in and he has not exactly looked like a natural fit in the position.
A move to Goodison Park, then, would represent a great opportunity for Layun at the age of 29. He has played in the Premier League previously for Watford but managed only four appearances at the start of the 2015/16 season before joining Porto for £5 million, as reported by the Watford Observer.

Layun even scored in a 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
And he looks the ideal replacement for Baines, blessed with a wand of a left-foot and an excellent crosser from wide positions. Although it remains to be seen whether Porto will grant his wish and let him leave.
