Yuri Berchiche didn’t make the grade at Spurs but could be offered a second Premier League chance at Everton if he leaves Ligue 1 giants PSG.
Back in 2010, Tottenham Hotspur released their young Spanish left-back Yuri Berchiche after he failed to make the grade at White Hart Lane.
Flash forward eight years, however, and reports are suggesting that Everton want to give Yuri a second chance to prove himself in England and will pay a lot to bring him back to the Premier League.
According to the Guardian, Everton are one of many clubs keen on signing the 28-year-old this summer. This comes just a matter of days after Diario Vasco claimed that Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain could cash in on a player they signed from Real Sociedad last summer, provided they receive a fee of around £25 million.
Left-back has been a problem position for Everton all season, at least until Leighton Baines returned from a lengthy injury lay-off.
The veteran Englishman remains the only natural left-sided full-back in Everton’s squad, unless you include the out-of-favour Luke Garbutt who is expected to be sold this summer.
Yuri, however, would be a natural long-term successor to Baines at Goodison Park. The Basque-born speedster is a typical modern full-back who offers a real attacking outlet on the flank. Yuri has set up five goals for PSG this season, has displaced French international Layvin Kurzawa in Unai Emery’s starting XI and would likely only be sold due to the Parisien’s need to fulfil Financial Fair Play obligations.
A big-money move to Everton, however, would leave Tottenham a little red-faced.
