Everton have reportedly joined the race for AC Milan’s Serie A star Kessie.

Everton have joined the race to sign £30 million AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, according to Calciomercato.

And if that name feels familiar to Toffees fans, then there’s a reason for that.

January 2017 feels like a long time ago. Ronald Koeman was in charge back then with Steve Walsh pulling the strings as director of football. And it was they who initially tried and failed to lure Kessie to Goodison Park with the Guardian reporting that Atalanta had rejected their £15 million bid.

Two-and-a-half years on, however, it seems that Kessie, who now plays for AC Milan, is back on the radar.

The Ivory Coast international was a key player under Gennaro Gattuso but the Italian’s successor, former Sampdoria coach Marco Giampaolo, has apparently decided that he is not part of his plans at the San Siro.

Milan have to sell anyway after missing out on the Champions League and Calciomercato claims that Kessie is available for £30 million with Everton joining the frequently-linked Tottenham and Arsenal in the chase.

Yes, Everton tried to sign the powerhouse midfielder for half that fee in 2017 but there’s no reason why they should turn their nose up at his price-tag now. Kessie is one of the biggest midfield talents around and could be worth far more in a few years.
