Manchester United looked to have snapped up George Hirst from Championship Sheffield Wednesday but Premier League rivals Everton are allegedly keen, too.

Hirst is one of the most exciting young forwards in English football and has been linked with a whole host of clubs in the Premier League in recent months, with his contract at Wednesday set to expire this summer.
And it seemed that Manchester United were set to win the race for Hirst, who scored over 40 goals last season for Wednesday and England youth sides. The Mirror claimed that Jose Mourinho was confident of getting a deal over the line for the 19-year-old, whose representatives made clear that Old Trafford was his preferred destination.

But so far no deal has been announced. And it seems that Everton are hopeful of hijacking a move to bring Hirst to Goodison Park instead.
The Toffees, who won the Premier League 2 title last season with the likes of Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Jonjoe Kenny playing key roles for David Unsworth’s U23 side, are set to shake up their youth ranks this summer with up to three new signings targeted.

And one of those is understood to be Hirst, who the Liverpool Echo claims has been watched by Goodison Park scouts for some time.
Hirst, who has only made two senior appearances in his career, has been frozen out at Sheffield Wednesday for refusing to commit his future to the club.
