Ligue 1 outfit Rennes beat Premier League Everton 4-1 in a pre-season friendly – and James Lea Siliki reportedly caught the Toffees’ eye

Everton are reportedly interested in signing a player who tore them apart on Saturday.

James Lea Siliki was a man in red hot form as Rennes hammered The Toffees 4-1 in a pre-season clash at the weekend, setting up two before capping an impressive win with an excellent solo goal.

And just three days later, it seems that Siliki’s display has convinced Everton that he is a man worth bringing to Goodison Park.

According to L’Equipe, Everton are readying an offer for the 22-year-old although they face competition from Borussia Dortmund.

Benfica have also been linked while Monaco were keen earlier in the summer, although it is understood that they have now turned their attention to other targets.

Siliki, who moved to Rennes from Guingamp in 2014, scored three goals and set up two more in Ligue 1 last season but he was not a regular starter for his club. He appeared in the first XI just 19 times in France’s top flight throughout 2017/18.

His promise has still shone through, however, and it would be a surprise if Siliki was still at Rennes when the transfer window slammed shut.

It remains to be seen how much Everton are willing to offer or whether Rennes are willing to sell.
