Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have been linked but Everton’s interest in Cenk Tosun was simply inevitable.
It seemed only a matter of time before Everton joined the race for prolific Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun.
The Toffees’ paucity of reliable centre-forwards has been brutally exposed in a disastrous start to the season, which saw Ronald Koeman lose his job after tallying just eight points and seven goals from the opening nine Premier League games.
The Sun reported earlier this month that Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace had all sent scouts to watch Turkish international Tosun, whose value at Besiktas is understood to have risen to around £20 million after a fine start to 2017/18.
And HaberTurk is now reporting that Everton have held discussions with the striker’s father over a potential move to Goodison Park. The report claims that Tosun would prefer to move to England, but will also give thought to the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund understood to be interested.
Everton’s interest, meanwhile, makes perfect sense. Tosun has fired Besiktas to two straight Super Lig titles in Turkey, and scored a total of 41 goals in all competitions in the last two seasons.
Tosun has also been in fine form for Besiktas this season in a so-far stunning Champions League campaign, netting twice in an away win at Monaco after inspiring further victories against Porto and RB Leipzig.
Everton’s desperation for a new striker to fill the void left by Romelu Lukaku’s departure, however, means the Premier League’s basement side will have a difficult task luring Tosun to London.
