Juan Bernat may need a fresh start away from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and where better than Everton in the Premier League?

Everton appear to have filled one major hole in their squad by following up the signing of a traditional number nine in Cenk Tosun with the addition of Arsenal speedster Theo Walcott.

The toothless Toffees, who have scored once in their last five games, can now call on an attack high on goal threat, pace and intelligent movement.

And it appears that a new left-back is next on the list of priorities. The Liverpool Echo states that Bayern Munich’s Spanish international Juan Bernat is one name being considered by the decision makers at Goodison Park.

The 24-year-old has been at the Allianz Arena since 2014, when Bayern paid Valencia a bargain £8 million for his signature, but he has never really established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back thanks to the form of David Alaba and an unfortunate series of injuries.

The diminutive full-back has featured just twice in the Bundesliga all season and, with his contract due to expire in 2019, could be set for a move away in order to kick-start his career.

And Everton could be the perfect destination. The Toffees are crying out for reinforcements on the left flank, with the right-footed Cuco Martina forced to fill in for most of the season and not exactly convincing in an unfamiliar role.

Bernat, however, is one of Europe’s top left-backs when fit and firing. He is a speedy and combative player in the mould of Jordi Alba, rather than a cultured crosser like Leighton Baines, but he would represent an immediate improvement to Everton’s starting XI.

The seven-time international has won the Bundesliga in each of his three seasons with Bayern.
