Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has been tipped to return to Ligue 1 with Marseille but it appears that Everton is a more likely destination.

Everton’s hopes of landing Olivier Giroud this summer appear to be growing by the day.

On Wednesday, the French forward admitted that leaving Arsenal was ‘an option’, as reported by The Mirror. He is understood to be concerned about his lack of opportunities under Arsene Wenger, starting only 11 Premier League games last season.

The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in a club-record deal does not exactly bode well for his hopes of wrestling back his role as Arsenal’s first choice centre-forward.

Understandably, the 30-year-old, who still managed an impressive 16 goals in all competitions last season, is not short of options.

L’Equipe say that ambitious Marseille are keen to entice the former Montpellier striker back to Ligue 1 but it appears that Giroud would prefer to remain in the Premier League with a World Cup on the horizon.

As such, this gives Everton an almighty boost, with the report claiming that Goodison Park is a realistic destination for Giroud this summer.

According to The Sun, The Toffees will pay £20 million for the strapping frontman though he will have big shoes to fill if he does indeed take up the mantle on Merseyside.

Romelu Lukaku’s big money move to Manchester United means Everton have lost their talismanic striker, scorer of 26 Premier League goals in 2016/17 – more than Giroud has ever managed in a single season.

However, Giroud’s experience and superb link play means he could be an excellent fit for a young, energetic Everton side.
