Five Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in Besiktas defender Vida but Everton and West Ham United have now emerged as front-runners.

Domagoj Vida might have just become one of the most in-demand defenders around.

Turkish publication Fanatik has reported that both Everton and West Ham United have made bids for the 29-year-old Besiktas centre-back.

This comes after reports from Skor stated that five Premier League clubs had expressed an interest. However, it seems that Everton and West Ham are now pulling clear having both offered £11.5 million for Vida’s services.

Strong and versatile, Vida moved to Besiktas from Dinamo Kiev in January after his contract with the Ukranian side came to an end. He did not enjoy a dream start to life in Turkey however, as Besiktas finished fourth, surrendering their title to Galatasaray.

But Vida has been one of the surprise stars at this year’s World Cup with Croatia winning both their games so far, keeping a clean sheet in each. Alongside Dejan Lovren, Vida was fantastic as the Croats hammered Argentina 3-0 on Thursday night.

So Everton and West Ham are making the right decision in moving quickly for Vida. With a dearth of top level centre-backs around, particularly those available for less than £30 million, Vida will surely command even more interest if he can maintain his impressive performances in Russia.
