Aaron Mooy was an absolute revelation in Huddersfield Town’s first ever season of Premier League football.

After starring at the John Smith’s Stadium during a loan spell from Manchester City in 2016/17, during which the Terriers were promoted to the top flight via a play-off final win against Reading, Mooy made his deal permanent last summer for £10 million before taking to the top flight like a duck to water.

And the Sun (20 June, page 52) is now reporting that the 27-year-old’s fine performances at the heart of David Wagner’s midfield has not gone unnoticed. It is understood that Everton and Southampton have made Mooy an £18 million transfer target this summer.

Both the Premier League clubs want a creative play-maker after missing out on Norwich City’s James Maddison, who is joining Leicester City. And Mooy, a smooth and intelligent midfielder who scored four league goals last season to help Huddersfield to safety, fits the bill.

But Everton and Southampton will face a difficult task attempting to convince Mooy to leave West Yorkshire. The one-time Bolton Wanderers youngster still has two years left on his deal and said before jetting off to the World Cup in Russia that he is happy with life in Huddersfield, the Sun adds.
