West Brom striker Salomon Rondon could find himself at the centre of a tug-of-war between Premier League and Merseyside rivals Everton and Liverpool.
Salomon Rondon produced his finest performance of the season as West Bromwich Albion held Everton to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Venezuelan may not have scored and was left devastated when an accidental collision with James McCarthy saw the Toffees midfielder stretchered off with a broken leg, but his aggressive and intelligent performance meant he stood out as comfortably the best player on the pitch.
He almost won the game too, rattling the bar with a stunning curling shot from 25 yards out.
And it appears that it was not just the pundits impressed by Rondon’s display on Merseyside. Because the Sun (live transfer blog) reports that Everton are now planning a bid to ensure the 28-year-old plays at Goodison Park more often.
Despite signing Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott this month, Everton are understood to be in the market for another striker and Rondon appears to fit the bill.
The powerful target man, who arrived at West Brom from Zenit in 2015, 18 months remaining on his contract and it is understood that The Baggies might be tempted to sell if they receive an offer of around £15 million.
And just to make the rumour even more intriguing, the Sun adds that Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool are also keen admirers of the former Malaga wonderkid.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are understood to be tracking Rondon and could step up their interest with Daniel Sturridge set to leave this month.
Rondon is a big, physical centre-forward who famously scored a hat-trick of headers in a December 2016 clash against Swansea City – so would offer a different type of threat to the more cerebral ‘false nine’ Roberto Firmino.
