A whole host of Championship clubs have been linked with the exciting Manchester City forward Lukas Nmecha this summer but it seems that Aston Villa are leading the chase.

According to All Nigeria Soccer, the 19-year-old was in the director’s box on Monday night as Steve Bruce’s side began their Championship campaign with a 3-1 away win against Hull City.

Nmecha is a player rated highly by Pep Guardiola and he added to his burgeoning reputation with a goal against Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup recently. He also netted a remarkable 15 goals in 11 games for City’s U23 side in the Premier League 2 last season.

But the Birmingham Mail claim that Nmecha is only a back-up option at present. It is understood that Villa’s top target remains Tammy Abraham, who is expected to be loaned out by Chelsea once again.

Though Abraham is reported to prefer a move to another Premier League club with Brighton and Hove Albion a potential destination. Therefore, Aston Villa face missing out on a player who scored 23 Championship goals during a spell at Bristol City in 2016/17.

As promising as Nmecha is, he cannot match the two-time England international Abraham when it comes to Championship experience.
