It is fair to say 2017/18 will not rank among the best in Gareth Barry’s 20-year Premier League career.

The veteran midfielder joined West Brom from Everton in the summer for £1 million according to the Mail but, both on and off the pitch, the campaign has certainly been one to forget.

The Baggies are bottom of the Premier League and ten points adrift of safety and, in a season where Barry become the top appearance maker in the top flight of English football, he has come under considerable criticism from supporters.

That is without mentioning his involvement in the whole ‘Taxi-gate’ situation, which has done nothing to enhance his reputation among the Hawthorns faithful.

And according to Birmingham Mail, Barry’s debut season at West Brom could be his last one, too.

The Mail claimed that the 37-year-old signed a one-year deal in the summer with an option of a second should he impress. But, perhaps unsurprisingly, it is understood that West Brom are unlikely to take up that opportunity and keep him at the club for another year.

But with over 650 Premier League appearances under his belt, there still could be a few clubs out there willing to extend Barry’s career at the top level.
