With Mo Salah taking the Premier League by storm, it was only a matter of time before the vultures of Real Madrid started circling over Anfield.

According to El Confidencial, Madrid president Florentino Perez is under pressure from some directors to part company with his favoured son Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman has endured a nightmare season with a paltry eight goals in 33 games in all competitions and has been subjected to boos from the supporters almost every time he steps onto the field.

As such, it is understood that Madrid have identified a number of potential replacements, with Salah joined on the list by Robert Lewandowski, Mauro Icardi and Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic number 10 Harry Kane.

Understandably, however, Liverpool would demand an eye-watering fee for a player who has stunned the footballing world with a remarkable 32 goals in his debut season since signing from Roma.

El Confidencial report that Jurgen Klopp’s side would demand around the 160 million euros (£142 million) that Barcelona paid for Philippe Coutinho in January.

As such, Liverpool could expect to make a rather nice £100 million profit. Although after they fought so hard to keep Coutinho at Anfield, Real should brace themselves for an almost impossible mission.

And unlike Coutinho, who handed in a transfer request to force a move, there is no suggestion that Salah has his heart set elsewhere.
