Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly made a massive offer to lure Franck Kessie to the Premier League but he is staying in Serie A with AC Milan.

Wolverhampton Wanderers made Adama Traore their record signing this summer, triggering the £18 million release clause required to take him away from Middlesbrough.

But the Premier League newcomers were allegedly willing to pay far more to bring Franck Kessie to Molineux. According to Calciomercato, Wolves offered around £50 million for AC Milan’s Ivorian midfielder.

That is quite the fee but anyone who has watched Kessie in action will tell you why he is so highly-rated. Blessed with pace, power, tactical intelligence, the ability to break up attacks and score goals from distance, Kessie is growing into the complete midfielder and he is still only 21.

According to Calciomercato, however, the former Atalanta wonder-kid rejected Wolves’ advances because he wanted to stay at the San Siro.

And this was a real sigh of relief for Milan, who have big plans for Kessie going forward.

It is reported that Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso, himself a pretty good midfielder once upon a time, wants to give Kessie the freedom to become a real box-to-box enforcer for the Rossoneri. He has frequently been used as a ‘destroyer’ but it seems that Gattuso is now hoping to build his team around the player so frequently compared to Yaya Toure.

Milan, meanwhile, are hoping to extend Kessie’s contract beyond 2022 and increase his £2 million-a-year wages.

With this in mind, Wolves might have always been fighting a losing battle.
