Newcastle United were reportedly keen to bring Jonathan Kodjia to St James’ Park from Aston Villa but it seems he is staying put.

Everything has changed around dramatically at Aston Villa.

Just a few weeks ago, the financial crisis that had engulfed the Midland giants appeared to mean that the fans had seen the back of some of their favourite players, as Villa desperately attempted to balance the books.

But, after being taken over by new, mega-rich owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens, Villa are no longer stuck in such a dramatic situation.

The Mail claimed that they have told Stoke City that James Chester will not be sold at any price, while Jack Grealish’s long-awaited move to Tottenham Hotspur now appears to be doubtful, too.

The Birmingham Mail, meanwhile, has now provided an update on the future of star striker Jonathan Kodjia.

The Express and Star reported in early July that Villa looked set to cash in on their £15 million record signing. Newcastle United were understood to be interested in a player who scored 19 goals in his debut season at Villa Park and appeared to have that combination of skill and strength Rafa Benitez is looking for.

But the Birmingham Mail reports that, in another eye-catching U-turn, Kodjia is now expected to stay at Villa Park next season.

With him, Chester and Grealish potentially on board, this is quickly looking like crisis averted – for now at least.
