Pedro Goncalves impressed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in pre-season but is yet to make his Premier League debut.
It would be a mistake to think that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ billionaire owners are just in it for a quick buck.
According to the Mirror, Wolves are planning for the long term and are scouring the market for the world’s best young talent in an attempt to raise their academy to the exalted levels of Chelsea and Manchester City.
Pedro Goncalves is certainly one player who represents the club’s long-term vision. The central midfielder arrived at Molineux in 2017 from Valencia and, although he is yet to make his first-team debut, he showcased his talents with some eye-catching performances in pre-season, particularly in a victory against Swiss club Basel.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are hugely excited by Goncalves’ potential. It remains to be seen, however, whether the 20-year-old Portuguese play-maker can force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team plans over the coming months.
Goncalves has started four of Wolves’ Premier League 2 games this season and has been utilised in a two man midfield, suggesting he can provide back up to Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the months ahead.
Wolves host Leicester City in the EFL Cup third round at Molineux on Tuesday night and Goncalves will be hoping that he is given the chance to impress.
