Reece Oxford’s poor FA Cup display against League One Shrewsbury Town could result in his exit from Premier League giants West Ham United.

Reece Oxford looked like the future of West Ham United when he starred as a 16-year-old in that 2-0 win away at Arsenal on the opening day of the 2015/16 season.

Two-and-a-half years, two loan spells and just six more Premier League appearances later, however, one of the club’s most exciting academy graduates in years could be heading for the exit.

Football London states that the Hammers are willing to sell Oxford to Borussia Monchengladbach, who he played for on loan for the first half of the season.

But after rejecting a £12 million bid from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig, the report adds that West Ham will demand £18 million for a player once linked with some of the Premier League’s established elite.

Oxford was recalled from his loan spell at Gladbach in December with manager David Moyes wanting to take a closer look at the teenager. He struggled badly, however, in a defensive midfield role in the recent FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town and it appears that performance may have sealed the end of his West Ham career.

Whether Gladbach are willing to meet West Ham’s demands for a player who started only two Bundesliga games in half a season, however, remains to be seen.

Sporting Director Max Eberl stated recently that he expected Oxford to return to Borussia Park before the end of the month; but Gladbach would have to smash their transfer record to sign the Englishman on a permanent basis.
