Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg will sell Pierre-Michel Lasogga at the end of the season but will he stay in the Championship with Leeds United?
With Hamburg both in real danger of relegation from the Bundesliga and in a dire financial situation, selling Pierre-Michel Lasogga will be one of their first priorities going into the summer transfer window.
The German giants were so desperate to get their high-earning striker off the wage bill this season that they allowed him to leave for Leeds United on loan – even agreeing to pay a sizeable chunk of the £50,000 weekly wages that would otherwise have put him well outside of the Whites’ budget, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
And Bild reports that Hamburg will now look to sell Lasogga permanently at the end of this season, particularly as they are now seven points adrift of the relegation play-off position and obviously would not be able to afford the striker if they dropped into the second tier.
Bild’s report adds that Lasogga is valued at around £2.2 million, a relatively low fee for a striker who, while not always convincing, has scored 10 goals in 19 Championship starts for Leeds this season.
It will be interesting to see whether The Whites will make a move to sign Lasogga permanently at the end of the campaign, though they would have to tempt him to accept a rather substantial pay cut to stay at Elland Road.
Bild, however, believe there is a good chance at Lasogga will be sold to a Premier League club in the summer and considering that Leeds are now 13th, 11 points adrift of the top six, he will not be playing top flight football if he remains in East Yorkshire.
