Celtic have had a bid rejected by Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell for Northern Irish goalkeeper Trevor Carson.

It should come as no surprise to learn that Motherwell do not want to sell their goalkeeper for just £200,000 with next to no time to find an adequate replacement.
Celtic must have known that they were unlikely to get a positive response when making their measly offer for Trevor Carson. And with the Daily Record (live transfer blog, 7.52am) reporting that the Hoops are set to make a new bid for the 29-year-old, they must be willing to offer far more in order to make a deal possible.
The Daily Record adds that Motherwell are looking for a sum of around £750,000 for Carson, earning them a substantial profit on a player they plucked from Hartlepool United for just £10,000 as recently as June.

Carson has been in superb form for Steve Robinson’s side this season, but links with Celtic have come as something of a shock despite the news that Craig Gordon has been ruled out for up to three months with injury.
As it stands, Dorus de Vries is the only senior goalkeeper at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal.

So it remains to be seen whether desperation will push Celtic to offer £550,000 more for Carson before the month is out.
Robinson admitted that he had spoken to Celtic on Monday and the two clubs are well apart in their valuation of the Northern Irish shot-stopper, and claimed it would be a nightmare scenario if Celtic decided to meet Motherwell’s £750,000 price-tag.
