Leeds United cult hero Pontus Jansson was linked with Premier League duo Burnley and West Ham United during the summer transfer window.
Leeds United have managed to reach the end of the transfer window without losing any of their key players, unless you count Ronaldo Vieira. And this is a major plus for the Elland Road faithful, who were once again fearful that cult hero centre-back Pontus Jansson could have been on his way.
The Sun (April 22, page 7) reported that Burnley were interested in the Swedish international while West Ham United were also linked via TEAMtalk.
Jansson has been open about his desire to play Premier League football after two seasons in the Championship with Leeds. And his increasingly outspoken comments certainly struck fear into the heart of fans who were desperate for him to stay.
Although, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, they never really had much to worry about. It is claimed that the transfer window has slammed shut without Leeds ever having to deal with any serious interest in the former Torino and Malmo man.
So Jansson, who sealed a permanent move to West Yorkshire last summer for £3.5 million, will be a Leeds player until January at least.
It remains to be seen, however, what role he will play in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans. Jansson was left on the bench for the impressive 3-1 opening day win against Stoke City with Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi either side of Kalvin Phillips in something resembling a fluid back three.
