Alongside David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak, Diego Fabbrini is part of Garry Monk’s Birmingham City ‘bomb squad’: can the Championship club sell?
Diego Fabbrini returned to Birmingham this summer after a loan spell at Real Oviedo but it seems that his spell in the Second City will be a flying visit.
The Birmingham Mail report that Fabbrini is training alone after being told that he is not part of Garry Monk’s plans for the 2018/19 season. The midfielder is understandably desperate to secure a move away in August in order to avoid spending the next few months stuck in the reserves.
Fabbrini was initially training with the U23s alongside other members of the Monk ‘bomb squad’, including David Stockdale, Tomasz Kuszczak and new Bolton loanee Jonathan Grounds. But it is reported that he himself asked to maintain his fitness away from the rest of the group.
It remains to be seen whether the 28-year-old, who moved to St Andrews from Watford in 2016 for £1.5 million, will be offered an escape route in the next two weeks.
He had previously insisted that he wanted to stay with Spanish second tier outfit Oviedo but no move has materialised just yet.
Fabbrini, who was capped by Italy six years ago, has not made an appearance for Birmingham since November 2017 and has also spent time out on loan to Spezia.
