Rangers will demand a big fee if Alfredo Morelos heads to England but far less than the sum Celtic would demand for the sale of Moussa Dembele.
Alfredo Morelos has not wasted the opportunity to nail his colours to the mast at Rangers.
Speculation has intensified in recent days that clubs south of the border are keen to sign the Colombian striker from the Glasgow giants.
But Morelos, who has scored 12 goals for Rangers since joining from HJK Helsinki for £1 million, has no interest in bringing a premature end to his Ibrox career this month. At least, that is what the youngster’s agent has said, in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun.
Do not expect to see Morelos posing with a new shirt or scarf this month then, especially with Rangers now valuing their prize asset at £10 million.
But while such a fee would earn Rangers a cool £9 million profit on a player who was far from a household name when he first arrived at Ibrox, could they afford to demand even more for their one of their key men?
When you consider that Morelos has scored four more goals than his Celtic counterpart Moussa Dembele, albeit in a few more games, you wonder whether his asking price is still a little low.
After all, Celtic value Dembele at least double £10 million, and the Frenchman would reportedly have cost £30 million after a debut season in which he scored 32 goals and won three domestic trophies, according to the Mail.
If Morelos continues to score for the remainder of the season, it would be no surprise to see Premier League scouts flocking to Glasgow to watch him as well as Dembele. And £10 million is a pocket change sum to most top flight sides these days.
So perhaps Rangers should take a leaf out of Celtic’s book and add a few more million to Morelos’s price-tag.
