Hibernian have reportedly rejected two bids from Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic for international midfielder John McGinn in this transfer window
Hibernian aren’t exactly in a position of strength regarding the future of John McGinn, even if they are playing hardball right now.
According to Sky Sports, Hibs have rejected a second offer from Celtic worth £2 million for their 23-year-old talisman. It is understood that the Edinburgh side value McGinn at closer to £3 million.
But Celtic will know that they are in a very good position. And not just because, as the Daily Record adds, McGinn is understood to be keen on a move to the club he supported as a boy.
The nine-time Scotland international has just a year left on his contract. And the report points out that Celtic could now be prepared to play the waiting game, which opens the door for them to land McGinn on a pre-contract agreement in January.
Unless he surprisingly agrees a new contract at Easter Road between now and the New Year, Celtic could land one of the most promising talents in Scottish football without spending a single penny in transfer fees.
McGinn has been tipped to replace skipper Scott Brown at Parkhead but his potential arrival could instead fill the void left by the departure of energetic midfielder Stuart Armstrong to Southampton earlier in the transfer window.
