George Evans looked set to leave Reading for League One Sunderland, but now Championship side Derby County are hijacking the deal according to reports.

George Evans looked to be on the verge of becoming a Sunderland player before the weekend.
According to the Chronicle, the Black Cats had agreed a fee in the region of £1 million to sign the midfielder from Reading. The report added that personal terms were yet to be discussed, but there was not expected to be any obstacles as Jack Ross’s side edged closer to an impressive deal.
Yet everything has changed in the blink of an eye.
According to the Northern Echo, Evans is now refusing to commit his future to Sunderland as there is sudden Championship interest in his signature.
It is understood that Derby County are very interested in the 23-year-old, who seems to fit the mould of the energetic, youthful central midfielder that Rams boss Frank Lampard has been looking for. Evans can also play at centre-back.

The Northern Echo adds that the former Manchester City youngster is waiting for interest from elsewhere to develop. And only then will he make a decision about his future.
Considering that Reading accepted a bid of around £1 million from Sunderland, Derby should have no trouble meeting Evans’ asking price, either. As it stands, it seems unlikely that the former England U19 ace will be playing his football in League One next season.
