Report: Derby hoping to sell Chris Martin to QPR

It is no surprise that Steve McClaren’s Queens Park Rangers have been tipped to raid Championship rivals Derby County for striker Chris Martin.

Here is some potential good news for Queens Park Rangers and their new manager Steve McClaren.

West London Sport reported on Wednesday that McClaren was hoping to raid his former club Derby County to sign both Chris Martin and Alex Pearce this summer. And it looks like he will be in luck.

The Mirror (live blog, 10.40am) is reporting that Derby are indeed hoping to sell centre-forward Martin this summer and are keen to offload him to QPR.

It has been well documented that the Rams are aiming to slash their budget this summer after once again failing to secure promotion to the Premier League. And 29-year-old Martin, who has spent time on loan at Fulham and Reading over the last two seasons, is one of the club’s highest earners.

The former Norwich City striker was behind David Nugent, Matej Vydra, Cameron Jerome and Sam Winnall in the pecking order last season.

Martin had an excellent record under McClaren at Pride Park, however. He scored 38 Championship goals in two seasons under the former England manager between 2013 and 2015.

McClaren was denied the chance to work with Martin during his second spell at Derby though, with the striker on loan at Fulham during the 2016/17 campaign. But a reunion could be on the cards at last.
