Derby County have enquired about bringing Gary Rowett’s former player Tomasz Kuszcak to Pride Park from Championship rivals Birmingham City.

Gary Rowett could be reunited with one of his former players at Derby County before the month is out.

The Sun stated on Tuesday that The Rams boss was keen to bring Tomasz Kuszczak to Pride Park from Birmingham City as competition for Scott Carson between the sticks.

The report added that the veteran shot-stopper, who has lost his place in Birmingham’s starting XI to summer signing Robbie Stockdale, would be keen to reunite with Rowett in the East Midlands.

And the Derby Telegraph has now added credence to these reports by stating that the Rams have asked about Kuszczak’s availability, and young goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell could now be about to leave on loan to make way for the Pole’s arrival.

“For us, Jonny is a really top young goalkeeper but it’s hard to see how good he is when he’s sat on the bench and not playing,” Rowett told the Derby Telegraph.

“So there’s that debate for us – would we be better off bringing an experienced number two in should we be in a position where we need that experience in a big game with five games to go, for example?

“We’ve had a couple of loan offers for Jonny, which would be a good opportunity to get games.”

23-year-old Mitchell has never made a league appearance for Derby, although he has impressed when given the opportunity in cup competitions.

But with Carson in superb form, and some rather ambitious fans clamouring for him to be an outside bet for England’s World Cup squad, first-team opportunities for Mitchell are few and far between right now.
